Teicnic Badminton

Teicnic Badminton is Badminton Ireland’s new Technique based programme which focuses on the technical development of players and key stages in their playing development.

Teicnic Badminton has seven levels (t-shirts) like belts in karate, starting at a basic white level, followed by yellow and on eventually to the advanced black level. Each time the candidate has attained the skills of a particular level they are ready to move on to the next. The course is great for anyone interested in making a difference to their own game.  

As of January 2013, the first 3 levels; White, Yellow & Green have been launched. The 4th level (red) & 5th level (blue) are planned for launch in July and December of 2013 respectively.

Each level takes between one and two hours to work through and there are straightforward checks at the end of each level. Candidates who pass the programme get a t-shirt indicating the level passed e.g. white, yellow, etc.

 Club Development

Once the Third level is achieved and the candidate has a minimum of a formal Badminton Ireland Level two coach award then it is possible to become a Teicnic Badminton coach and deliver the first 2 levels to their own club. This pathway to coaching will help coaches develop their own clubs in utilising Teicnic Badminton skills and the formal Badminton Ireland Coach awards.

In addition to the club players benefiting from improvements in their game, the Teicnic programme will also benefit clubs as it will form part of the BI Clubmark programme – an accreditation schemes that rewards participation and progression.

Hosting a course:

To host a course/test a club can source a qualified coach from Badminton Ireland and pay them to deliver the course. The t-shirts can then be purchased at 5 euros per shirt.
