Insurance
Badminton Ireland club and member activities are insured through our brokers, ODON, who have arranged cover with Sportscover Europe Limited. The policies cover Badminton Ireland, the branches, country associations, leagues and affiliated clubs.
Please note only affiliated players are covered by this insurance - Affiliation is only completed, whether online or by email/post, when full payment is received by Badminton Ireland. Please click here for letter on non-affiliated players in your club or facility.
Badminton Ireland members and clubs are insured with respect to the normal badminton training and competition activities, travel to and from such activities (excluding air) and member’s social activities organised by affiliated clubs. The main policies under which members are insurance are public liability and personal accident policies. Please note for 2012/13 that the limit on medical expenses has been increased from €1000 to €1500 (excess €100).
The Public Liability policy covers meetings, badminton activities and social/fundraising activities up to a maximum of 500 people.
The Personal Accident Policy covers injury while training or playing badminton including travelling to and from matches under the control of Badminton Ireland and its affiliated clubs. Any travel by air not organised by Badminton Ireland may require an additional policy and you should clarify your coverage before making any arrangements.
Also, it is important to understand, that the general Badminton Ireland Insurance Policy is a Public Liability Policy - it is not a policy that covers teaching and coaching. Therefore teachers and coaches need to consider further insurance with respect to any teaching and coaching they carry out. Badminton Ireland offers further insurance in this regard, and indeed is a requirement to be on the Coaches Register - for this reason coaching insurance is included in the €50 fee to be listed on the register.
