Scott Evans secured Gold for Team Ireland in the finals of the 2014 Brasil Grand Prix today (Sunday) in Rio de Janerio. Evans showed great form throughout the tournament beating a number of seeds on his way to the final including number one seed Henri Hurskainen of Sweden. In today’s final Evans showed his fighting spirit by coming back after losing the first two games to number two seed Dieter Domke of Germany. Evans took the final three games to win the Grand Prix title which will no doubt go down as his biggest victory of his career so far.

In the mixed doubles it was agony for Sam and Chloe Magee as they had to settle for silver despite having match point against number one seeds Max Schwenger and Carla Nelte of Germany. The Irish number one partnership won the opening two games and had match point in the third game. The Germans showed great nerve to win the third game 11-10 and then took the next two to secure the Mixed doubles crown.

Sam Magee had also lost out the day before with his brother Joshua in the semi-final of the Men’s doubles against Max Schwenger and Josche Zurwonne of Germany. The Irish number one doubles player will have to settle for Silver and Bronze at this event.
