Great play from our badminton players at the World Dwarf Games Michigan USA.
Niall Mc Veigh wins the 2013 Singles title. Niall was the current holder of the 2009 title. Niall played good badminton to get-out of the groups, He then moved up another gear as his quarter-final opponent was Oliver Clark UK. Niall lost the 1st set 15/21 but he then re focused and took the next 2 sets 21/16- 21/14 to progress into semi-final. Another tough match for Niall. This was a nervous one for Niall as Andrew Martin had beaten him at their last encounter in Scotland. Niall had a poor start in 1st set losing 15/21, he then took a very close 2nd set 22/20 and in the 3rd set Niall took control from the start to win the match 21/13.
The final was against Krysten Coombs UK. Niall kept his cool and played a very solid match to take the title 21/19-21/12. Well done Niall.
In the Women's singles, Emma Farnham had a very good championship winning all her group matches, making her way into the semi finals. Her opponent was Charlie Worgan AUS. Emma played a great match winning 21/17-21/10. to reach the final against Rebecca Bedford GBR. Emma had a poor start in 1st set losing 21/8 but in the 2nd set Emma played great badminton and stayed with her opponent point for point. Unfortunately a few unforced errors cost her the match; still great achievement for Emma to take Silver.
Andrew Moorcroft was competing in the Junior section. Andrew also had a great championship and played well in his groups to reach the semi finals. Andrew played against Bobby Lang GBR here and played a great match but Bobby was just too strong for Andrew on the day, with Andrew losing 14/21-12/21. Still a great championship for Andrew taking the Bronze.
Emma Fitzsimons, only new to the Game also played in the Women's Junior section. Emma lost her two matches in the group, but most importantly, she enjoyed the experience and with more play and training Emma will make a good player
