AIG FZ Forza Irish Open 2019 Preview

As the AIG FZ Forza Irish Open 2019 begins tomorrow, here’s a quick guide to the tournament.

Venue: National Indoor Arena, Blanchardstown

Dates: 13th – 16th November

Times: Qualification – 09:00 (Wednesday)

             Round 1 to Last 16 – 09:00 (Thursday)

             QF – 10:00 (Friday)

             SF – 16:00 (Friday)

             Finals – 13:00 (Saturday)

 

Coverage: All courts will be streamed on the Badminton Europe YouTube Channel.

Finals TV Coverage to start at 1pm on TG4, Saturday 16th

Tickets: Free entry from Wednesday to Thursday. Tickets for the Finals Day are available on Eventbrite.

Men’s Singles

Number 1 seed: Lakshya Sen (India)

Highly anticipated Irish match: Round 1 Match of Main Draw – Nhat Nguyen vs Alex Lane (ENG). Thursday at 10:10 AM.

Number of Irish Players: 15

Things to note: Nhat Nguyen automatically qualified for the MS Main Draw. 14 Irish Players will be competing in the qualification round on Wednesday including Joshua Magee.

 

Women’s Singles

Number 1 seed: Yvonne Li (Germany)

Highly anticipated Irish match: Round 1 of Qualifications – Sophia Noble vs Memunatu Theresa Kargbo from Sierra Leone. Wednesday at 2:30 PM.

Number of Irish Players: 9

Things to note: All Irish Players will compete in the qualifications tomorrow. If Sara Boyle or Kate Frost go through to the Main Draw, they could face Yvonne Li on Thursday.

 

Men’s Doubles

Number 1 seed: Jason Anthony Ho-Shue & Nyl Yakura (Canada)

Highly anticipated Irish match: Round 1 in the Main Draw, Joshua Magee & Paul Reynolds will play 2nd Seeds Alexander Dunn & Adam Hall from Scotland on Thursday at 2:50 PM.

Number of Irish Players: 14

Things to note: Two Irish doubles pairs are automatically in the Main Draw, Joshua Magee & Paul Reynolds, and Jack O’Brien & Callum Thomas. A win for O’Brien and Thomas could see them face number 5 seeds Carsten Mogensen & Mads Pieler Kolding.

 

Women’s Doubles

Number 1 seed: Emilie Lefel & Anne Tran (France)

Highly anticipated Irish match: Round 1 of Qualifications – Sara Boyle & Rachael Darragh vs Jenny Moore & Victoria Williams (ENG). Thursday at 4:05 PM.

Number of Irish Players: 7

Things to note: There is no qualification round in the WD on Wednesday. The first match in the WD will take place Thursday at 3:30 PM. A win for Sara Boyle & Rachael Darragh could see them face 4 seeds Alexandra Boje & Mette Poulsen (DEN).

 

Mixed Doubles:

Number 1 seed: Thom Gicquel & Delphine Delrue (France)

Highly anticipated Irish match: Round 1 in the Main Draw – Second seeds Sam Magee & Chloe Magee vs Patrick Scheiel & Franziska Volkmann (GER). Thursday at 10:15 AM.

Number of Irish Players: 13

Things to note: A win for Rachael Darragh & Paul Reynolds could see them compete against 6 seeds Gregory Mairs & Victoria Williams from England.
