The Men’s Singles final will be contested between number one seed Jack O’Brien and 3/4 seed Azhar Syed. Syed beat number two seed Callum Thomas 21-15, 23-21 to progress to the final whilst O’Brien won a tight Semi-Final against Daniel O’Meara in three games 21-9,18-21,21-9.
The top two seeds in the Women’s Singles made it through to the finals in May. Number one seed Lucy Fox won a tight three game match against Leonie Ward 15-21,21-16,21-17. Fox will play against Anastasiya Bogoslovskaya (2) in the Final. Bogoslovskaya beat Molly Davies in straight games 21-16,21-17 to reach the final.
Number one seeds John O’Brien/Callum Thomas were eliminated in the Semi-Final stage against Declan Bennett/Fergal Brennan 19-21,21-18,21-12. Bennett/Brennan will come up against number two seeds Rian Fox-Hughes/Jack O’Brien. The pair of Fox-Hughes/O’Brien also had to overcome a three game match against Brian Colgan/Enda Daly 18-21,21-19,21-16.
The top two seeds both managed to progress to the final, both teams however had to come through tight three game matches to reach the Final. Caoimhe McKeown/Vicki Pesti beat Lucy Fox/ Leonie Ward 21-19,19-21,21-6. They will play Shauna Kenneally/Laura Lynch who beat Ciara Nelson/Tracey Watson 15-21,21-15,21-16.
After some incredibly tense and exciting games, number one seeds Cormac Meegan/Ashleigh Coyne will play against number two seeds Declan Bennett/Jennifer Lalor. Both pairs had to fight through tough opposition in the Semi-Finals with each match going to three games. Bennett/Lalor beat Edgeworth/Pesti 21-17,16-21,21-9, whilst Meegan/Coyne beat Ennis/Gorman 21-7,15-21,21-16.
Grade B Results
The final of the Grade E will be contested by youngster Benjamin Darragh and Nguyen Quang Long. Both players came through a 64 draw to reach the finals. Darragh beat Conor Bradley 21-19,21-19 in the Semi-Final of the Men’s Singles, whilst Long beat Enda Clogher 21-15,21-17 in the other Semi-Final.
Both finalists of the Grade E failed to lose a game throughout the competition. Leah Auld showed impressive form after beating Niamh Hickey 21-9,21-16 in the Semi-Final. Jennifer Murphy beat Tara Phelan 21-13,21-14 to set up the an interesting final.
William Cummins and Paul Ryan reached the final of the MDE after beating Nguyen Quang Long/Yao Yu in the Semi-Finals 25-23,18-21,21-17. Cummins/Ryan will play against Adeel Ali/Tayyab Shahzad after they won in straight games 21-8,21-19 in the second Semi-Final.
Michelle McCarthy/Claire Ruddy will go into the Women’s Doubles Finals in great form. After losing a game in their opening match the pair has failed to lose a game since. They won their Semi-Final against Ingrid Duncan/Heather Hanbidge 21-7,21-11. The pair will face off against Leah Auld/Tara Phelan in the WD final. Auld/Phelan won their Semi-Final match in three games 21-18,18-21,21-13 against Niamh Hickey/Ellie Power.
The E mixed doubles final will be played against Dermot Daly/Jenny Reid and John McGrane/Tara O’Neill. Both pairings won their Semi-Finals in straight games to progress to the finals on the 18th May.
Grade E Results
The Men’s singles final will be contested between Muhammad Mizanur Rahman and Mir Nelroy. Nelroy beat David O’Briem 21-19,21-17 whilst Rahman beat Fabien Baggi in a very close encounter, 23-21, 17-21, 21-19.
Phoebe Browden won her Semi-Final match against Roisin Slevin in three games 21-15,13-21,21-15. Browden will play against Ceira Kennedy who won her Semi-Final in straight games 21-17,21-10 against Catherine Hanly.
The Men’s Doubles Grade H Final will be contested between Sean Clogher/Chris Gilmore and Mir Neloy/Muhammad Mizanur Rahman. Neloy/Rahman beat the pairing of Derek Cray/Gareth Kelly 21-11,21-14 whilst Clogher/Gilmore beat Clevin Liju/Liju Varughese 21-18,21-18.
Louise Howard/Aine Ramsay beat Leona Gogary/Ceira Kennedy in the Women’s Doubles Semi-Final 21-14,21-14. Howard/Ramsay will play against Carol O’Mara/Roisin Slevin in the final after O’Mara/Slevin won 24-22,21-15 against Phoebe Bowdren/Celine Tierney 24-22,21-15.
One of the last games played throughout the day was also one of the tightest matches. Jeenus Chalattu Kunnath/Flor Alquizar beat Christy Doyle/Roisin Slevin 24-22,21-23,24-22. The pair will play against Declan Faulkner/Louise Howard who have not lost a game so far in the competition.
