Gold for Ireland at AIG FZ Forza Irish Open

Gold for Ireland at AIG FZ Forza Irish Open

Sam Magee & Chloe Magee win Gold in the Mixed Doubles final to finish off a memorable event.

Sam Magee & Chloe Magee came into the competition as number one seeds and had an element of pressure on them, as expectations were so high on the pair. After the narrow loss in the Irish Open 2017 XD final, the pair came into the competition with a focus and determination that none of their opposition could match. For Sam & Chloe this would be an ideal time to win the competition especially as the Finals were broadcasted live on national television (TG4).

The Magees started slow in the first game down 5-2 to the English team of Towler/Westwood. Sam & Chloe responded well however going into the break 11-9 up. They would never let the English pair back into the match winning the first game 21-13. The second game was very closely contested in the early stages with both teams trading points, however the further the second game progressed the more determined the Irish pair became. After the final shot was played by Sam Magee you could hear and see the delight in both players. The match finished 21-13,21-12. This victory gives the pair excellent momentum going into the Scottish Open later this week.
