European Junior Championship Quarterfinal

This will be a first ever European Junior medal for Ireland in a singles event, but the colour is still to be decided. Nhat Nguyen booked a place on the podium winning his quarterfinal match against number five seed Christian Savin of Moldova.

In tomorrow’s semi-final Nhat will face number three seed Christo Popov of France. Christo will be looking to follow in the footsteps of his brother who won last the last European Junior Championships held in Mulhouse France in 2017.

“Tonight, Nhat faced a difficult opponent who made him work hard to get the win. It was important that Nhat could adapt his game to deal with the pace of the match. It was good to see Nhat stay calm in the big points and make good decisions when needed. Tomorrow is another match against another tough opponent, a medal is secure but the quest for gold will continue” Irish Team Coach Daniel Magee
