Three Bronze Medals for Ireland in Lithuania

There were some impressive results form Irish players at the 2018 Lithuanian International. Joshua Magee won a bronze medal in the men's singles and won a bronze medal along with  Paul Reynolds in the men's doubles.

Reynolds and Magee beat Poland’s Konrad Ploch and Dominik Zietek 21-11 17-21 21-10, then they were also victorious against Denmark’s Rasmus Esperson and Sebastian Gronbjerg 21-18 21-15 to book a place in the semi-final of the event. They were beaten in the semi-final by Russian pair Egor Kurdyukov and Egor Okolov 18-21 21-13 21-15.

In the singles, Joshua Magee defeated England’s David Jones 21-14 21-23 21-18 before overcoming Belgian Julien Carraggi 24-22 22-20 and another Belgian Elias Bracke 23-21 21-13. This set up Joshua a place in the semi-final. Joshua pressed the number one seed Felix Burestedt from Sweden all the way but lost out 22-20 13-21 15-21.

In the mixed doubles, Rachael Darragh and Paul Reynolds overcame Americans Pedro Arturo Garcia-Flores and Jacqueline Wendy Myers 21-6 21-13, but Ukraine’s Artem Tkachuk and Anna Mikhalkova knocked them out with a scoreline of 23-21 20-22 21-19.

In the women’s singles, Rachael Darragh lost out to Alesia Zaitsava of Belarus 21-9 21-11. Jonathan Dolan lost out in the singles qualification to Henri Hurskainen 21-17 21-19.
