Viking BC marks the start of a new season by achieving Bronze Clubmark award

Viking BC in Dublin are beginning the new season as a recognised Badminton Ireland Clubmark club having been awarded the Bronze Level award in recent weeks. This is a fantastic achievement for a club who have invested a great amount of time and effort in the Clubmark process. The collective unity within Viking BC was the primary foundation behind the clubs successful Clubmark journey, and this was most evident in how the members and executive funded the attendance of one club coach on a Badminton Ireland Level 1 course in early 2017.

Club Chairperson Andy Tang was responsible for ensuring the eventual signing-off the Clubmark process with Badminton Ireland, and upon visiting Viking to present them with their award, he provided a background into the culture and ethos within the club; "Our emphasis in Viking is not to make money or win the most silverware, our main priority is to make all members feel welcomed, appreciated, and most importantly send them home with smiles on their faces. Those values remain constant in all club nights, whether that be in Aughrim Street on a Monday evening, or Terenure Badminton Centre on a Thursday night".

Furthermore, we asked Andy to give us his thoughts on the Clubmark process and this is what he had to say; "Clubmark gave us guidance on what clear structures and strategy looks like for a Badminton club, and we firmly believe this has progressed the club level in recent months". Clubs must meet requirements in areas such as Governance, Teicnic participation, and Coaching in order to achieve the Clubmark awards.
