Irish Players Progress to Day 2 of FZ U19 Irish Open

Nhat Nguyen and Rachel Woods headline the Irish players that have progressed through to day two of the FZ U19 Irish Open. Number one seed in the Men's singles Nhat Nguyen started his journey for a medal with a convincing second-round victory over Robbie Patterson (21-8, 21-5). Nhat will come up next against Aidan Delaney of Scotland at 11.40am on Saturday. Aidan overcame Malte Wagnerof Germany in round two with a dominant performance (21-9, 21-12). This will be a step up in competition for Nhat and if he is victorious he will play against Lukas Resch (7) or Ciar Pringle at 3.30pm on Saturday.
The women's singles sees three Irish players with the opportunity to make the Quarter Finals. Rachel Woods will come up against number three seed Miranda Wilson. This is set to be a very tough test for Rachel but she will be full of confidence after an impressive three-game win over Scotland's Rachel Cameron in the second round. Rachel will take to the court at 12.40pm on Saturday. Elsewhere in the draw, Ireland's Xuan Beattie will come up against number one seed Ella Soderstrom. This tie sees two players who are both in great form after convincing wins in the previous round. The third Irish athlete with the opportunity to make the Quarter Finals is Anastasiya Bogoslovskaya, she will take on Basia Grodynska of Scotland. Basia is coming off a big victory after knocking out number 7 seed Inalotta Suutarinen of Finland.

Day two of the competition will see Nhat Nguyen and Paul Reynolds start their Doubles campaign. Their Round two game will be against James Lin and Brandon Zhi Hao Yap of England at 1.30pm on Saturday. Three other Irish pairs have the opportunity to make the quarter-finals. Sean Laureta and Daniel O'Meara take on fourth seeds Flen Lewington and Ciar Pringle of Scotland. Jack Armstrong and Matthew Robb will play the English pair of Ben Jarvis and Llyod Skinner. Adam McAllister and Brian O'Mahony will player at 2.00pm on Saturday against Jack MacGregor and Robbie Patterson.
The sole Irish pair remaining in the women's doubles is Kim Feehily and Orla Flynn. They face the tough task competing against number two seed Maija Krzywacki and Inalotta Suutarinen of Finland. Their match will be played at 4.10pm on Saturday. Ireland also has one pair remaining in the mixed doubles, in what could be one of the best matches of the day. Rachel Woods and Adam McAllister will take on number one seeds Lukas Resch and Emma Moszczynski of Germany with the winner progressing through to the Semi Final of the competition.
As well as all this action, the FZ U15 Irish Open commences on Saturday 2nd September.
