U15 Teicnic Camp finishes off fantastic two weeks

U15 Teicnic Camp finishes off fantastic two weeks

The U15 players arrived at Marino Institute of Education on Monday for another fun-filled week of badminton and various activities. Over 30 players from across the country attended the camp.

Players were welcomed and introduced to the camp coaches they would be following instructions from for the week. Players then went straight onto the court where the week's activities got underway. Twice during each of the days, players got the opportunity to get outside for some fresh air where they took part in football, Gaelic, rounders and a variety of other sports. On the first evening, players got to watch a movie and take part in one of Andy Stewarts famous table quizzes.

On Tuesday players took to the court to practice a variety of different techniques to get them ready for their assessments on Thursday. They practiced low defence on the forehand and backhand sides as well as some overheads using different types of movement patterns to approach, land and recover.

On Wednesday players had the privilege of being treated to a session by guest coach Xiaojia Chen of China. She is a former Chinese National and Indonesian Open winner. She represented China in the 2012 Asia Games. The players really enjoyed the session and were put to the test by the Chinese coach. Thanks to HaoTong Aviation for sponsoring the players with playing shirts.

On Thursday players got to take their individual Teicnic levels. All players did very well and levels from white through to blue were covered. Tha evening the campers got to take part in a Volleyball session led by guest coach Conor Doherty. The bad weather held off and players really enjoyed trying a new sport.

Friday was the final day of the camp and players got to take part in a team tournament. There were 5 teams of 5 players and the games were played to 21 with every point counting toward the final results. Some brilliant matches were played and the results could not have been closed with the Red Team coming out the winners. Players were then greeted by their parents who got to watch them being presented with the Teicnic shirt that they achieved during the week. There was also a special prize of a signed Irish Team shirt for the best male and female campers of the week. The best female camper of the week was presented to Molly Hong Minh. The best male camper of the week was presented to Adam Daynes.

A huge thank you must be made to everyone who made the two weeks of camp such a success including all of the staff and guest coaches, the staff in Marino Institute of Education and the players who camp to take part for the week. We look forward to seeing everyone back again next year!!
