Teicnic/Club Update - Banteer Juvenile BC

As the season is nearing a close, Banteer Juvenile BC decided to finish with a flourish by having club members assessed on the white and yellow levels of the Badminton Ireland Teicnic programme. Teicnic Badminton is a skill based programme focusing on the technical progression of players at key stages of their development. Twenty-seven participants were assessed on the day by David Mulcahy, and each of them had a challenging but enjoyable experience.

The club has had a busy 2016/2017 season with plenty of activity on a number of different fronts. Local primary school teams, Banteer Girls N.S. and Lyre NS, both medalled at the All-Ireland Shuttle Time Primary Schools Finals. In the All-Ireland Shuttle Time Secondary Schools Finals, eight teams between Scoil Mhuire and Colaiste Treasa were heavily represented from Banteer Juvenile BC, with 98% of players on these teams playing in the club. This figure is remarkable as it highlights the club-school links that have been developed.

Furthermore, coaching has played a pivotal role in the club’s development in recent times. Aidan O’Donoghue and David Mulcahy are both BWF Level 1 coaches who have been training and developing the juveniles over the course of the year. Additionally, Helen Moore has provided weekly coaching in small groups for interested members and this was well attended throughout the season. Three members also completed a Shuttle Time course, which further enhances the coaching practices within the club.

Finally, it must be acknowledged that without the dedication, efforts, time, and support of the committee and club volunteers, none of this would be possible. With that in mind honourable mentions must go to Denise Murphy, Ciara Buckley, Pat Buckley, Josephine O’Donoghue, Eileen Kelleher, Cathal O’Donoghue, Alan Coughlan, Tom O’Connell, Ciara O’Flynn, Karen O’Donoghue, Hannah Buckley, Tara Sweeney, and Lisa O’Donoghue.

The club can look forward to the 2017/2018 season with optimism as the club profile continues to rise. There is a summer camp taking place in August, details of which will be released in the coming weeks from the club. Exciting times ahead for all in Banteer Juvenile BC.
