Chloe Magee through to second round of Danish Open Super Series

Chloe Magee booked her place in the second round of the Denmark Open Super Series this morning, Wednesday, 21st Oct, in a closely contested two set win over Super Series veteran Charmaine Reid of Canada.

After her qualification day heroics in the mixed doubles Chloe Magee was first on court today at the Denmark Open as the tournament proper kicked off in Odense in her first round match against the evergreen Charmaine Reid of Canada.

Chloe MageeIn the opening set Magee got off to a slow start as she battled not only to dominate the play but also the battle of minds that was clearly a part of Reid’s game plan. At 12-11 ahead Magee appeared to have seized control but Reid bounced back to 4 points without reply to set her up for a first set assault. However, as if to spur Magee on, the four point deficit proved to be the catalyst for her comeback. Magee switched into another gear to take the remaining nine points of the set to reverse the fortunes of the match almost in the blink of an eye.

In the second set Reid’s once again gained the initiative as her slow play proved to play on the mental capabilities of Magee. The Canadian took an early 10-5 lead and the match looked, at that point, to be heading to a deciding rubber. But Magee’s will to succeed combined with some clever net play saw her claw her way back into the set and tied the game at 10-10. Once again Reid’s experience told as she continued to upset the rhythm of her younger opponent and at 19-15 ahead the set look beyond Magee. But once again the Raphoe shuttler dug deep into her reserves and came storming back and at 19-18 down the set was once again wide open. Reid won the next to set up set point at 20-18 but Magee once again showed her battling qualities to hit back and rattled off the next four points to take the set 22-20 and with it her place in the second round.

“I felt really good today on court. I didn’t feel any reactions to my games yesterday and after all this is Super Series so if you cannot be motivated for this you cannot be motivated for anything. I wanted to win this match really bad as it was a good draw for me and now I get to play Wang Yihan of China in the second round. I will just go and do my best and enjoy the game and who knows maybe cause a big upset” said Chloe after her victory
