This was a difficult year for all sporting bodies and with the recession hitting all walks of life it was very challenging to keep the interest of the people involved going.
I was delighted to eventually get Buntus badminton off the ground in Kildare and I would like to thank Eddie Hennessey from KSP for all his help in achieving this and the coaches I used to introduce the Buntus programme to all the teachers. A big thank you to Mona and Ron Martin for their help, they are new coaches and are doing a great job, long may their dedication and enthusiasm for badminton last.
Two new clubs in Kildare make the headlines on reaching the grade six cup final in the SWL competition
Congratulations to Rathangan on getting to the final of the South West Leinster grade six knock out cup it was a great achievement in their first year in competition.
Congratulations to St Laurences on winning their first trophy for the club it is always great to see new clubs coming of age well done to them both long may they the continue.
A sad note for Offaly Badminton was the untimely death of Judy Bryant's husband who was the rock behind Judy in all her hard work in improving Badminton and indeed keeping it alive in the county our deepest sympathy to Judy and her family and long may her involvement with Badminton continue.
Congatulations to Kinnity on winning their first league trophy for the club well done to the committee and all the players involved. Well done to St Marys secondary school Edenderry on completing the TI course and Joe Abbott for the coaching thanks again Joe.
Laois welcomes the another juvenile club
Well done to Martin Delaney and Castletown it is good to see Martin back in Badminton circles again and we all look forward to seeing the fruits of his labours in the near future. Every county needs juveniles if Badminton is to continue and grow so well done again Martin.
Congratulations to Portlaoise Gaa club on returning to winning ways after being out of competitive Badminton for some years well done to all involved.
One of the highlights of the year for me was the disability championships in Dublin, if one ever needed a reason to participate in sport then watching the enthusiasm and enjoyment of all the participants was something special and rewarding for all involved.
