Schools

Helped run Connacht Schools and Munster schools Competitions

Set up National School Blitz days in Sligo. More to do.

Idea is come September, set up a club in these areas.

From January 2011 Ulster Badminton will start a new schools participation programme in partnership with the Ulster Sports Outreach Unit at the University of Ulster Jordanstown, looking to increase the number of Primary and Post Primary Schools in Northern Ireland playing badminton.

Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary

I have been working a lot on schools programmes in Clare, Tipperary, Limerick, Mayo and Galway. 3 Schools have signed up to the Transition year module in Limerick, 2 in Mayo, 1 in Tipperary and 1 in ClarREADMORE

Women in Sport Projects 2009/2010

For the year 2010, funding from the Irish Sports Council under the Women in Sport Initiative has been reduced considerably.

From a figure of €144,400 in 2009, this year our funding is €103,500. While this reduction in funding is disappointing, it is hardly surprising given the current economic circumstances. For this reason, it has been important to critically examine all Women in Sport Initiatives and evaluate their value to Badminton Ireland members and potential future developmenREADMORE

MARY IMMACULATE COLLEGE have set up a club from the amount of student Teachers that have taken part in Introductory courses. Which the College ran

Ulster Badminton Primary Schools Finals 2010

The finals of the Ulster Badminton Primary Schools programme took place on Friday 21st May 2010 at the National Badminton Centre in Lisburn. 48 players attended the event representing 12 Primary Schools from across the province.

Cork Badminton Basics

The Cork Sports Programmes are a new initiative from the Irish Sports Council and the Cork Sports Partnership to help develop sport in Cork. There are currently 9 sports involved in the initiative, with almost all of the programmes under way. Donegal Primary Schools Competition 26th April 2010

The first Donegal Primary Schools Competition took place in the Letterkenny Aura Leisure Centre on the 26 April 2010.

74 4th and 5th class pupils from 8 different primary schools took part in the event. The winners of each group go forward to the Ulster Schools finals Lisburn at the end of May.

Boys:

The Roscommon Juvenile Badminton League held its third and final blitz of this season last Sunday in Loughglynn Community Centre.

Over 40 players from clubs throughout the county competed in various competitions on these days. These clubs being: Ballinaheglish, Ballaghaderreen, Boyle, Four Roads, Loughglynn & Strokestown.Some fantastic games of badminton were played across the various levels. This was a difficult year for all sporting bodies and with the recession hitting all walks of life it was very challenging to keep the interest of the people involved going.

I was delighted to eventually get Buntus badminton off the ground in Kildare and I would like to thank Eddie Hennessey from KSP for all his help in achieving this and the coaches I used to introduce the Buntus programme to all the teachers. A bREADMORE

LISTOWEL OPEN WEEK RESULTS 2010

The Listowel Badminton Club held their annual open week competitions during last week and it proved to be another successful week with 90 players competing on the Thursday night in the div. 4 and 5 competitions and Saturday saw 9 counties represented in the div. 1/2/3 events with the general play being of a very high standard.
