Next on court was Chloe against Sarah Walker. Chloe took the first set 21-18 but the English girl stormed away with the second 21-6. Chloe regained her composure and won the third 21-12. In a change from the regular partnership Sam and Scott teamed up to take on Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis. The first set was fast and furious with the English pair taking the set 21-15. They then forged ahead to take the second 21-8. Sinead and Jennie faced Mariana Agathangelou and Heather Olver in the Ladies Doubles. The girls put up a great fight but lost the first set 21-14. The English pair took the second set 21-15. Finally came the mixed with Sam and Chloe versus Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork. The first set was a close affair with Robertson/Wallwork taking it 21-17. They also took the second set 21-13. Final score : England 4 Ireland 1 With Coach Jim Laugesen not able to attend the event due to illness all credit must go to Tom Causer for stepping in and guiding the team all week. Day 2 - Wednesday, 16th Feb This morning, Wednesday, Ireland took on Slovenia in the 2nd day’s match. First up again were Sam and Chloe versus Silvester/Turk. Again a great start with a win of 21-15 21-14. Up next was Scott against Utrosa and this match proved a battle but Scott came out the victor 21-14 19-21 21-14.Chloe took to court again for her singles against Tvrdy and sealed the win 21-19 21-8. Men’s doubles with Sam and Tony against Turk/Utrosa followed and our men took this one 23-21 21-18. Last, but not least, the ladies, Sinead and Jennie took to the court to play Kodric/Silvester. The 1st set was nip and tuck and the Irish only lost it 21-18. In the second set the Irish girls fought hard and won 21-17. Into the final set, and although the girls battled hard they were unlucky to lose 21-12. Another great job by the Irish. Tomorrow, the final group game against England takes place at 7pm (local time) – good luck Ireland. Sam and Chloe got the team off to a flying start with a win over the Austrian mixed pair of Zirnwald/Baldauf 21-11 21-14. Scott then despatched of M Lahnsteiner 21-15 21-14 with another good performance. Chloe won the first set against S Prutsch 21-19 and then stayed focused at 20 all to take the second 22-20. Sam and Tony fought hard but lost to the pairing of Koch/Zirnwald 21-18 21-15. Our ladies Sinead and Jennie only lost to Prutshc/Baldauf 20-22 21-12 21-13. A great team effort by all. The final match of the group was against the No 3 seeds England on Thursday, 17th February. A slightly different format of matches with the 1st game being Men’s Singles and Scott versus Rajiv Ouseph. Scott gave his all but Ouseph came out the victor 21-13 21-13.
