 Badminton is the world’s fastest racquet sport – a shuttle can leave the racquet at a speed of 200 mph.

THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE


Outstanding ability is required to make a career of playing badminton. At the moment we have three full-time professional badminton players; Scott Evans, Chloe Magee and Ruth Kilkenny.

Scott Evans, 19, hails from Dundrum in Dublin.

He is a professional badminton player and is currently training at the International Badminton Academy in Denmark. He is Ireland’s number 1 mens singles player, further stamping his authority by winning the National Championships at Baldoyle Badminton Centre in February.

Currently ranked 83 in the World.

Best Achievements this season include Quarter Final Scottish Open, Quarter Final Cyprus Open
Striving towards world top 20

 

Chloe Magee, 18, from Raphoe in Co. Donegal is our Women’s singles and Women's Doubles no. 1 having recently won both at the National Championships. As a Women’s doubles pairing, Chloe and Karen (Huang) Bing are now ranked 41 in the world rankings.

In women’s singles, Chloe is currently ranked 108 in the World and climbing all the time.

 

Ruth Kilkenny

Currently ranked 119, Ruth is also a full-time badminton player, living in Greve in Denmark.

She is originally from Killaloe, Co. Clare. Ruth (22) is currently training at the International Badminton Academy in Denmark.

At the moment, all players are concentrating on Olympic Qualification.

There are over 500 clubs in from all over the country affiliated to Badminton Ireland with well over 10,000 club members playing badminton on a regular basis.

Badminton is generally played in parish halls, community centres and school sports centres.

Badminton Ireland offers a wide range of services and supports to clubs and individuals at a local level.
